Services of Dill And Company : In Connection With High Density Book Storage Facilities

Dill and Company provides management consulting and engineering services in connection with High Density Book Storage Projects. Starting with the original Harvard Depository Project in 1985 we have provided or are presently providing consulting and engineering services in connection with over 20 high-density book storage projects.

We have provided the following services in connection with these book storage projects:

   1.  Analysis of the requirements for high-density book and archive material storage. This includes evaluation of the sizes and growth rates of the collections, approximation of the sizes of various categories of materials and estimation of the numbers of volumes which have to be removed from existing libraries to bring them down to manageable levels.

   2.   Evaluation of institutions' plans for accessioning materials into the proposed high-density storage system and estimation of the optimum size for a proposed high-density book storage facility.

   3.  Help to the institution with development of systems for retrieval and refiling which are compatible with existing on-campus book delivery systems.

   4.  Preparing the shelving system design, floor plan, elevation and details.

   5.   Preparing floor plans for the areas used for processing, truck or van loading, charging of the order picker vehicles and other related operations.

   6.  Preparing requests for proposal or specifications for competitive bidding for the shelving system, mechanical guidance system and all of the guarding.

   7.  Definition of the building design parameters for the high-density storage system including the dimensions of the inside clear dimensions, special floor flatness and structural requirements, and suggested approaches for the HVAC, fire protection and lighting systems.

   8.  Preparing the RFP for the vehicles and their associated special work platforms.

   9.  Preparing the RFP for the special book trays to meet a projected mixture of book sizes.
